Job Description
We are looking to bring in an Associate Director to manage and grow our planning consents team. Based from offices in Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Chesterfield, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, Nottingham, Plymouth, with hybrid working options.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead major development applications, including the Development Consent Order (DCO) process.
- Provide strategic planning advice to clients and internal teams.
- Ensure projects are delivered on budget and within programme timelines.
- Coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams for seamless execution.
- Oversee deliverables and implement quality assurance and health and safety principles.
- Contribute to business development strategy, nurture client relationships, and lead commercial tenders.
Team Leadership and Development
Manage and grow our planning consents service and provide line management and mentorship to junior team members.
About Our Team
AECOM’s rapidly growing Town Planning team plays a key role in delivering major infrastructure and development projects. We are a top ten UK planning consultancy by size, employing more than 70 Chartered or Licentiate Planners.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant relevant experience leading planning consent applications for large infrastructure projects.
- Expert witness experience is advantageous.
- Client focus, strong interpersonal skills and collaborative working approach.
- Existing relationships with clients and local authorities.
- Business development mindset with demonstrable experience in winning work.
- Strong writing skills and ability to work under pressure.
- High commitment to quality.
- Degree in Town Planning or related discipline; membership of RTPI or equivalent.
