Field Management Superintendent – Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall on-site administrative and technical management for a wide range of construction projects.
  • Responsible for the organization and direction of construction and related activities within assigned area of responsibility.
  • May be the primary client contact for all jobsite day-to-day activities or coordinate with client’s resident representatives on jobsite activities.
  • Maintain control of the site and subcontractors.
  • Ensure assigned jobsite operations are in compliance with site safety protocols and subcontractor compliance.
  • Ensure subcontractor work aligns with client and subcontract requirements.
  • Understand CPM schedules and sequencing of work.
  • Focus on production, manpower efficiency, and milestone completion.
  • Plan several weeks ahead instead of reacting to daily issues.
  • Identify constructability concerns in advance of scheduled work.
  • Find solutions, not only identify problems.
  • Produce and maintain accurate daily reports and tracking.
  • Document issues properly through RFIs, daily logs and real-time communication with on-site project management.
  • Build trust with crews and subcontractors.
  • Facilitate AECOM/CS Federal Tishman policy/protocols.
  • Interface with all other administrative field staff, field management staff and particularly the Project Manager in a coordinated effort.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, engineering technology, building construction, building science or a similar field and 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as a Superintendent on a government construction project.
  • Construction sequencing/scheduling experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Procore.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
  • NAVFAC experience.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of USACE EM 385-1-1 and experience in hazard identification and safety compliance.
  • Familiarity with the United Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
  • Knowledge of the 3 phases of quality construction.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Experience in heavy civil and/or marine construction.
  • CQM certification or ability to obtain within 30 days after hire.
  • EM-385-1-1 and OSHA 30 certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days after hire.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Physical Demands

The work requires physical stamina and mobility, including climbing ladders and stairs, using personnel hoists, and moving through various terrain and construction zones. Employees may need to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted occasionally.

Work Environment

Construction field roles are performed on active job sites with exposure to environmental and job-related hazards, including proximity to heavy machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, electrical risks, and moderate to high noise levels.

  • Qualified applicants must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • Position is not hybrid nor remote.
  • Monthly temporary living stipend is available for eligible candidates.

Compensation

Salary range: $85,674.47 – $158,497.76 per year.
