Job Overview
Senior Mechanical Engineer working within AECOM's Nuclear team on both international and UK-based projects. The role involves design, project management, client interaction and oversight of engineering activities from concept to commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering design and project activities ensuring adherence to approved models and standards.
- Manage and mentor junior team members, assigning tasks and ensuring on‑time delivery.
- Produce comprehensive design work including 3D modelling, functional calculations and manufacturing documentation.
- Apply expertise in handling fissile materials and using 3D CAD systems with effective data management.
- Contribute to all phases of project development from mechanical sketches to commissioning and project review meetings.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers to estimate timelines, identify potential delays and communicate scope changes.
- Maintain HSE standards and contribute to QA audits, reporting non‑conformities or incidents as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progress towards it.
- Significant experience in mechanical engineering within regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, petro‑chemical or offshore.
- Demonstrated experience managing and delivering complex engineering projects from design to completion.
- In‑depth understanding of sector standards, regulations and best practices.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in a dynamic, deadline‑driven environment.
- Self‑motivated with strong commitment, willingness to learn and desire to work in a collaborative team.
