Joining our established and expanding Nuclear team as a Principal Civil Engineer means taking a leading role in delivering a diverse and growing portfolio of both international and UK-based projects. This position offers the opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary projects across all stages of the project lifecycle, from early client consultancy and feasibility studies through to full turn-key solutions and project delivery.
As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across our nuclear project portfolio, supporting a range of public and private sector clients both in the UK and overseas. You will be responsible for guiding design delivery, providing strategic direction across projects and programmes, and ensuring engineering excellence in line with our standards for quality, safety, and environmental care. Your role will also include client engagement, supporting the development of bids and proposals, and influencing project outcomes through strong technical and commercial awareness.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of Nuclear design work on projects for a range of public and private sector clients within the UK and overseas.
- Prepare, review, and provide technical assurance of detailed civil engineering designs.
- Provide strategic technical leadership across integrated multi-disciplinary teams delivering high-profile projects.
- Support client engagement, bid preparation, and the development of technical proposals.
- Oversee project delivery to ensure programme, quality, safety, and client expectations are achieved.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to Technicians, Graduates, and developing Engineers to support their professional and technical development.
Qualifications
- Expertise demonstrable in one or more specific specialist areas relevant to the Civil engineering discipline with a track record of successful application of specialist knowledge or skills.
- Ability to provide strategic guidance based on knowledge and experience of projects across a portfolio to inform and direct projects and programmes.
- Ability to provide leadership in a key area within an engineering function and act as a custodian of resource and expertise.
- Ideally have experience of working within the Nuclear Sector, new build and decommissioning projects, in roles reliant upon professional engineering expertise and judgement.
- Engineering experience demonstrating a record of successful delivery, including positions influencing professional engineers in the definition, implementation and delivery of civil engineering work packages.
- Demonstrable mentorship and direction of Technicians, Graduates and near Chartered members of design team.
- Understanding of design principles and ability to apply them.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Essential Qualifications
- Civil / Structural Engineering Degree, or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) (MICE).
