Business Development Director - Transportation, EURI
The Business Development Director will be responsible for driving growth across all sectors and practices within Transportation across UK&I, including identifying new market opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, overseeing market entry initiatives, and guiding the business toward sustainable and profitable expansion.
The role demands strong industry expertise, commercial acumen, sales experience, and leadership to shape the long‑term direction of the organisation within the evolving transportation landscape.
Responsibilities
- Business Development & Positioning
- Build strong, long‑term relationships with clients across the Transportation market, particularly those with holistic transport requirements.
- Support the formation and promotion of strategic partnerships with other organisations, including contractors.
- Work with clients to support their development of long‑term transport solutions that support overall outcome objectives.
- Position AECOM to shape client thinking and establish the organisation as a thought leader.
- Conduct competitive and market analysis to refine propositions and identify new revenue streams.
- Develop investment proposals that provide long‑term growth opportunity for AECOM.
- Provide advice to the business on future revenue opportunities and reduced growth areas.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Support pipeline analysis to ensure the Transportation end market has an appropriate pipeline of opportunities.
- Work closely with Strategy & Growth, Market Sectors, Practices and Marcomms teams to ensure client solutions are feasible and aligned with internal capabilities.
- Develop effective relationships with internal stakeholders, promoting a culture of success throughout the business.
- Collaborate with Market Sector Directors, Strategy & Growth, and the regional Contractor Partnerships lead to drive market direction and partnerships.
- Engage with Country Managers across Europe to drive growth in their markets.
- Engage with the Transportation Global Business Line to bring the best of AECOM’s global offer to clients.
- Client Account Management (CAM)
- Support and drive development of a world‑class CAM program within AECOM’s EUR&I Region.
- Work with Client Account Managers and local teams to build consistent and deep relationships with clients and supply chains, especially where solutions are not yet defined.
- Provide leadership of CAMs within the Transport business and support the development of CAM professionals and rigorous account goal setting and reviews.
- Performance Management & Reporting
- Analyse pipeline data and provide regular reports to senior management on outlook and market conditions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the sales process, tools and client engagement approach.
Qualifications
- Required Qualifications
- Significant experience in business development and winning work.
- Minimum 15+ years in business development or growth strategy in leadership roles.
- Proven track record of revenue generation, position development and leading strategic partnerships.
- Deep knowledge of the Transportation market in UK & I.
- Strong network within the Transportation sector in UK & I.
- Experience with public‑sector procurement including framework agreements.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
- Demonstrable record in the preparation, coordination and delivery of successful client engagement or growth initiatives.
- Proven track record of successfully driving and executing strategic plans across complex multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate at all organisational levels.
- Strategic and analytical mindset focused on driving results.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Knowledge of industry dynamics and trends in Europe & India related to Transportation.
