Are you ready to join a team of talented ecologists and shape the future of the environment? Join our dynamic Nature team as a Consultant Ecologist in our growing offices across the UK&I. At AECOM, we’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of Ecology programs and projects through long‑term partnerships with key clients.

Our Nature team is working on a mix of large infrastructure projects in the energy, water, renewables, defence and transport sectors, alongside managing smaller local projects. Our team also supports the wider AECOM Nature team with National and International projects.

In this role, depending on your interests and skillset, you will have opportunities to support various areas such as:

  • Using innovative survey techniques for species and habitats surveys, data capture and reporting;
  • Work‑winning;
  • Management of projects, Habitat Regulations Assessments; and Biodiversity Net Gain mentoring and coaching of the team.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Organise and carry out desk studies and field‑based habitat, botanical, protected and non‑native invasive species surveys;
  • Undertake the analysis, evaluation, interpretation and presentation of ecological data, including supporting production of Ecological Impact Assessments and design of mitigation strategies;
  • Safely deliver protected species and habitat surveys, analyse and evaluate results, conduct impact assessments, and design and implement successful mitigation strategies;
  • Perform the role of an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects.

Qualifications: Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience working in an ecology‑related role in the public and/or private sector, and designing, coordinating/leading field surveys;
  • Developing knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and policy, particularly relevant to Wales, and the Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) process;
  • Experience in botanical identification, undertaking Phase 1 Habitat/NVC surveys and/or protected species surveys, preferably bats or dormouse;
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work to meet peaks in demand (ecology roles typically involve occasional longer/unusual hours and a degree of working away from home for days/weeks at a time);
  • Strong report‑writing skills, with demonstrable experience in producing a range of reports and providing ecological advice to clients and stakeholders.
