AECOM’s Leeds based Streets team is looking for a Senior Engineer (Active and Sustainable Transport) to lead the design and delivery of innovative active travel, public transport, traffic engineering, and urban realm projects across Leeds, West Yorkshire and beyond. Key responsibilities and requirements
- Lead the design and delivery of active travel, public transport, general traffic engineering and urban realm schemes.
- Prepare and review technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Deliver all work in accordance with project briefs, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders.
- Delegate and coordinate tasks for graduates and technicians, supporting their development.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Champion Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities.
- Report regularly to the Principal Engineer or Project Manager on progress and risks.
- Proven experience in scoping, concept, preliminary, and detailed design of active travel and traffic engineering schemes.
- Strong knowledge of design elements for active travel design and general traffic engineering (drainage, junctions, carriageway improvements).
- Working knowledge of relevant design standards including LTN 1/20, TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and the Traffic Signs Manual.
- Familiarity with active travel design auditing procedures including Active Travel England’s scheme review tools.
- Proficiency in Civils 3D (desirable), AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (essential).
- Proficiency in other software design packages, active mode appraisal tools and guidance advantageous (e.g., GIS, ReMix, Propensity to Cycle Tool (PCT), Inclusive Mobility Guidance, Equity Impact Assessment).
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer CEng / IEng or support provided toward chartership.
- Recognised engineering qualification or preferably a degree in engineering.
- Knowledge of system interfaces and experience in technical engineering leadership which impact discipline design principles and demonstrate experience of successful management of interfaces within projects.
