At AECOM, we are a trusted infrastructure consulting firm, delivering professional services throughout the project lifecycle – from advisory and planning to design, engineering and construction management. Our work includes building resilient water and wastewater systems that support communities and help achieve net zero. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Water Team in Scotland, contributing to high-impact projects such as the SR27 Enterprise programme with Scottish Water.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support;
- Produce plant layouts, design drawings and mechanical plant selection, including specifications, WIMES data sheets, valve schedules, equipment schedules, lifting strategies, hydraulic headloss calculations and P&IDs for water projects;
- Liaise and collaborate with water and other discipline teams (civil, electrical, process and mechanical engineers) nationwide;
- Visit sites to carry out surveys and support liaisons with clients, contractors and suppliers;
- Attend and contribute to design review meetings such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs and SWIFTS;
- Line-manage and mentor junior and graduate mechanical engineers;
- Check mechanical deliverables produced by other engineers.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
- A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering;
- Progress towards Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution such as IMechE;
- A proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, technical specifications, and calculations with confidence and precision;
- Hands-on experience delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater engineering projects.
