We are looking to enhance and grow our Electrification & Power team with a Principal Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer. You will have delivered complex rail projects to client satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, and that designs are cost‑effective, constructable and compliant with relevant codes and standards. You will join a growing team delivering traction power and substation projects across the UK, with opportunities to support international projects. Our work spans the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support.
You will take responsibility for the technical and commercial delivery of key projects, acting as Discipline Lead / CRE (Contractor’s Responsible Engineer) where required, with a focus on traction power and high voltage substation systems.
Provide Expertise- Act as CRE / Lead Engineer, taking full accountability for technical delivery, design approval and independent review.
- Lead the delivery of complex traction power and substation design packages across all project stages.
- Contribute to the continued development and technical direction of the Electrification & Power team.
- Work closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and efficient delivery.
- Oversee and review work carried out by engineers and designers.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the team.
- Liaise directly with clients and stakeholders.
- Develop and approve concept and detailed design documentation including calculations, reports and specifications.
- Undertake final technical review of design packages and ensure compliance with relevant standards and project requirements.
- Maintain oversight of design assurance and governance across projects.
- Undertake site visits and surveys where required to inform design development and resolve technical issues.
- Provide construction stage design support and technical guidance as required.
- Support the preparation of technical input into bids and proposals.
- Have a strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements.
- Significant experience in traction power and high voltage substation design.
- Demonstrable experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer.
- Experience delivering complex projects across feasibility, outline and detailed design stages.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination and overseeing design teams.
- Chartered status, working towards chartership, or demonstrable experience operating at Principal level.
