Company Description: “Build hydraulic models that treat our water, strengthen infrastructure, and shape a more resilient future — together.” Work with Us. Change the World. At AECOM, we're delivering a better world. Whether improving your commute, keeping the lights on, providing access to clean water, or transforming skylines, our work helps people and communities thrive. We are the world's trusted infrastructure consulting firm, partnering with clients to solve the world’s most complex challenges and build legacies for future generations.

Job Description: Start here. Grow here. We’re looking for a Hydraulic Specialist to join our growing Water team. You’ll play a senior technical role, leading small teams to deliver critical hydraulic analysis of clean water and wastewater treatment facilities in the UK. Although your primary focus will be on hydraulic modelling of treatment facilities, you’ll also have opportunities to work on a wider range of treatment plant and civils design projects.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Set up HADES models for treatment plant infrastructure
  • Calibrate the model with physical data
  • Develop hydraulic solutions
  • Present findings to clients
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams within AECOM and externally to develop solutions
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, clearly documenting model assumptions, build processes, results, and uncertainties
  • Support project delivery tasks, including preparation of hydraulic profiles and working with other disciplines to help develop detailed design drawings
  • Engage with clients
  • Use company project management systems to help deliver work on time and within budget

Come grow with us. We are a growing, close-knit team of engineers, hydraulic modellers, technicians, and project managers. We support a wide range of clients, including local government, water companies, and private developers. With 600 staff across the UK in locations such as Basingstoke, Belfast, Bristol, Chesterfield, Croydon, Edinburgh, Leeds, and Manchester; we’re flexible on where you’re based across England and Wales. We value collaboration and development: from weekly team check-ins and client secondments, to site-based assignments and specialist training. You’ll have real opportunities to shape your career, whether that’s developing our international offering, driving innovation through technology, or becoming a mentoring champion for the team. Here, we’ll make sure you have the opportunities, challenges, and support you need to thrive.

Why Join Us:

  • Be part of a dynamic team that tackles challenging and impactful water projects
  • Work alongside industry-leading professionals and thought leaders
  • Engage in a collaborative and inclusive work environment
  • Access to continuous learning and development opportunities
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
  • Enjoy the flexibility to work in a way that fits your lifestyle while supporting a healthy work–life balance

Qualifications: Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate subject (e.g. Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering)
  • Technical Reporting: Writing clearly and concisely, summarising technical concepts for clients
  • Experience in open channel hydraulic design, including sub critical and super critical flow and hydraulic jumps
  • Experience with design of hydraulic structures, including weirs and flumes
  • Gravity pipe and pressure pipe design experience
  • Experience in developing hydraulic models and/or producing calculations for a range of sizes and complexities of treatment plants independently
  • Experience and understanding of hydraulic modelling scenarios
  • Chartership or working towards Chartership (CIWEM, ICE)

Desirable but not essential: You will also be self-motivated with an ability to work both autonomously where required, with a strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven team environment.

At AECOM, we believe in creating a better world through innovative and sustainable solutions. If you share our vision and are ready to make a difference, we want to hear from you.
