We’re looking for a Technical Director or Associate to join our growing Water team. You’ll play a senior technical role, leading teams to deliver flood risk modelling projects, while helping to expand our services on existing frameworks with our Gold clients such as the Environment Agency, National Grid and water companies.
What You’ll Do
- Provide technical direction to dedicated project teams nationally for complex, challenging projects.
- Lead or verify hydraulic modelling projects for flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments, or Environment Agency flood maps.
- Review or verify technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties.
- Lead and contribute to proposals ranging from innovative one‑off projects to large framework contracts.
- Mentor staff within the team to support professional development.
- Build relationships externally with clients and internally with other technical disciplines.
- Keep up‑to‑date with policy and technical developments and share them with the team; implement necessary adaptations.
- Deliver thought leadership and represent AECOM at conferences.
- Drive innovation within the team to deliver projects efficiently and right the first time, including development and enablement of AI solutions.
- Be an active member of our global community of hydraulic modellers.
Requirements
- More than 15 years of experience in hydraulic modelling software such as Flood Modeller, InfoWorks ICM and/or TUFLOW.
- Deep understanding of Environment Agency requirements for flood models used in risk assessments and scheme design.
- Established presence and network in the industry demonstrated through active engagement on LinkedIn and presentations.
- Experience with hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH2.
- Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to develop and maintain relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM.
- Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and/or MapInfo.
- Experience of flood forecasting modelling is advantageous.
- Practical knowledge of scripting programmes such as Python, Anaconda or Ruby is advantageous.
