Your role will be a senior technical resource guiding junior staff and developing the flood modelling and hydrology offerings.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and check hydraulic models using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, ICM to design Flood Alleviation Schemes, deliver Flood Risk Assessments, conduct reservoir flood studies.
- Develop water quality models (physico‑chemical, biological, bacterial, chemical) using MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, ICM.
- Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, assessing risks and opportunities.
- Undertake and check hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, WINFAP.
- Lead and input on tenders, from innovative projects to multimillion‑pound framework contracts.
- Mentor staff to support professional development.
- Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines.
- Stay up‑to‑date with legislation and guidelines affecting services.
- Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver outputs on agreed programme and budget.
- Collaborate with clients and teams on fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk projects.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
- Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software (Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW).
- Knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessment models.
- Basic understanding of physico‑chemical water quality regulations for fresh waters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional qualification with CIWEM or similar (obtained or near attainment).
- Knowledge of scripting (Python, Anaconda, Ruby) is advantageous.
- Self‑motivated, able to work autonomously, committed, willing to learn and thrive in a deadline‑driven team.
