Your role will be a senior technical resource guiding junior staff and developing the flood modelling and hydrology offerings.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and check hydraulic models using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, ICM to design Flood Alleviation Schemes, deliver Flood Risk Assessments, conduct reservoir flood studies.
  • Develop water quality models (physico‑chemical, biological, bacterial, chemical) using MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, ICM.
  • Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, assessing risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake and check hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, WINFAP.
  • Lead and input on tenders, from innovative projects to multimillion‑pound framework contracts.
  • Mentor staff to support professional development.
  • Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with legislation and guidelines affecting services.
  • Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver outputs on agreed programme and budget.
  • Collaborate with clients and teams on fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk projects.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software (Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW).
  • Knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessment models.
  • Basic understanding of physico‑chemical water quality regulations for fresh waters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional qualification with CIWEM or similar (obtained or near attainment).
  • Knowledge of scripting (Python, Anaconda, Ruby) is advantageous.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work autonomously, committed, willing to learn and thrive in a deadline‑driven team.
