Job Description Join our expanding Nuclear team as an Associate Waste Consultant. You will manage and support multi‑disciplinary projects across all stages of the lifecycle, from early client consultancy to comprehensive turn‑key solutions and project delivery. Key responsibilities include technical delivery, client engagement, project management, bid support, and ensuring delivery in line with AECOM’s standards for quality, safety, and environmental care. Your role will support business growth, maintain strong client relationships, and contribute to the success of our nuclear waste and decommissioning portfolio.
- Manage complex nuclear waste management projects from inception to completion, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery and high quality standards.
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in nuclear waste management, including waste characterisation, treatment, storage, and disposal.
- Develop and implement waste management strategies, plans, and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
- Conduct and oversee technical assessments, risk evaluations, and feasibility studies to support project decision‑making.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, building and maintaining relationships to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and documentation to clients and stakeholders.
- Advise clients on regulatory compliance, policy development, and strategic planning related to nuclear waste management and decommissioning.
- Support business development activities, including bid preparation, proposal development, and identifying new opportunities.
- Mentor and support Graduates, Consultants, and Senior Consultants to promote their technical and professional development.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice across project delivery and team capability.
Qualifications We are looking for professionals with:
- A minimum HNC qualification, preferably supported by a relevant science or engineering degree.
- Extensive relevant experience with strong technical knowledge and leadership capability.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, delivering high‑quality outcomes for clients.
- Strong engineering design principles application within complex project environments.
- Competency in technical governance, leading multidisciplinary teams, project cost control, programme management, and reporting.
- Experience with waste management, including solid, liquid, gaseous waste, waste inventory, and assessment.
- Knowledge of environmental aspects identification and safety cases.
Preferred additional qualifications and skills:
- Team management and leadership experience.
- Criticality awareness, HAZOP knowledge, nuclear site operations, new build, and safety case development.
Security Clearance Employment is conditional upon the ability to meet UK security clearance requirements necessary for projects requiring clearance at AECOM Infrastructure and Environment UK Limited.
