Are you ready to help lead a team of talented engineers and shape the future of the water industry? AECOM is looking for a Design Manager who can bring their technical expertise to a range of significant projects. You will guide and oversee technical delivery, forming close working relationships with a wide range of colleagues and clients – such as Wessex Water, South West Water, Welsh Water, and Thames Water.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Lead: Drive the multi-disciplinary technical delivery of water/wastewater infrastructure and treatment projects through the design lifecycle from feasibility to asset management.
- Collaborate: Work closely with our most valued clients to understand their needs, collaborate with contractors and stakeholders, and guide colleagues to develop exceptional technical solutions.
- Manage: Oversee key packages of work from conception to handover, interfacing with AECOM teams, clients, suppliers and contractors to create a seamless technical solution.
- Guide: Act as the primary technical interface for our valued clients and contractor partners.
- Mentor: Support the development of team members through mentorship and oversight.

Qualifications:
- A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering subject, e.g. civil, electrical, mechanical.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with ICE, CIWEM or similar.
- Extensive experience in water or wastewater engineering (treatment schemes and/or network design), including multi-disciplinary knowledge.
- Experience in leading the technical delivery of projects, working with engineers and specialists to deliver wide ranging schemes alongside the project manager.
- A proven track record of forming strong working relationships with clients and contractors in the water sector.
- Passion for quality, including applying your expertise to undertaking quality assurance reviews of deliverables.
- Enthusiasm for technical mentorship and supporting the development of team members.
- Ability to support business development activities, including bids and fee proposals.
- Relevant experience in a similar role for a water company or consultancy.
