Job Overview

Our Water team is looking for a passionate Senior Flood Modeller to join our dynamic Water Business Line.

This role will deliver high‑profile, influential projects across the UK and beyond, working at the heart of a leading northern engineering hub.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision you will

  • Develop and check hydraulic models using packages such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC‑RAS and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments and reservoir flood studies.
  • Develop water quality models (physico‑chemical, biological, bacterial or chemical) using industry standard software such as MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT and ICM.
  • Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, considering risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake and check hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, Re FH2 and WINFAP.
  • Lead and contribute to tenders from innovative one‑off projects to multimeg pound framework contracts.
  • Mentor junior staff for professional development.
  • Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines.
  • Keep up to date with developments in legislation and guidance that may affect services.
  • Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high‑quality outputs within agreed programme and budget.
  • Collaborate with clients and teams of engineers and specialists to deliver fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software (e. g., Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood models used in flood risk assessments.
  • Basic understanding of physico‑chemical water quality and regulatory standards for fresh water.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Professional qualification with CIWEM or similar, or soon to be obtained.
  • Practical knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Anaconda, Ruby) is advantageous.
  • Self‑motivated, autonomous, committed, willing to learn and able to work in a deadline‑driven team.
