Responsibilities

  • Lead and support flood risk modelling projects across national and international engagements.
  • Work with our dedicated project teams nationally to provide technical direction in the delivery of complex and challenging projects.
  • Technically lead or verify hydraulic modelling projects which assist the design of flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments or the Environment Agency’s flood maps.
  • Technically review or verify technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties in the model build process.
  • Lead and input into proposals ranging from innovative one-off projects to large framework contracts.
  • Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development.
  • Build relationships externally with clients and with other internal technical disciplines.
  • Keep up-to-date with policy and technical developments and guidelines, share them with the team and identify and implement adaptations to our services.
  • Deliver thought leadership and represent AECOM at conferences to showcase our expertise.
  • Drive innovation within the team to deliver our projects efficiently and right first-time, including the development and enablement of AI solutions.
  • Be an active member of our global community of hydraulic modellers.

You will also be self-motivated with an ability to work both autonomously where required, with a strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a fluid deadline-driven team environment.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of significant experience (more than 15 years) in hydraulic and modelling software (such as Flood Modeller, InfoWorks ICM and/or TUFLOW).
  • Deep understanding of Environment Agency requirements in preparing flood models for flood risk assessments and scheme design.
  • An established presence and network in the industry demonstrated through active engagement activities on LinkedIn and/or presentations.
  • Understanding of hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH2.
  • Strong leadership and communicative skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and/or MapInfo.
  • Experience of Flood Forecasting modelling would be advantageous.
  • Practical knowledge of scripting programmes such as Python, Anaconda, Ruby would also be advantageous.
