Start here. Grow here. Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as an Associate Flood Risk Consultant in the Regulations and Development sector. As an Associate Consultant, you will technically lead and manage the production of flood risk consenting related documents for our major clients. You will join one of our rapidly growing UK offices and benefit from our flexible hybrid working model. We are a close‑knit team of consultants, engineers, technicians, hydrologists, hydraulic modellers and project managers who provide development opportunities through secondments, on‑site assignments, and targeted training.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Deliver: Lead & verify the production of documents such as flood risk assessments, strategic flood risk assessments, flood risk activity permits, Section 19 reports, and water resource chapters of EIAs.
  • Expertise: Lead input into tenders for complex and high‑profile projects, including nationally significant infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate: Build strong relationships with clients and across technical discipline teams to ensure the successful delivery of fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects.
  • Quality: Keep up‑to‑date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services; use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high‑quality outputs in line with agreed programme and budget.
  • Lead: Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development.

Qualifications:

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Professional chartered member of CIWEM or ICE.
  • Significant experience in technically leading teams in the production of flood risk assessments and/or flood risk activity permits.
  • Strong track record of project management, following the principles of the NEC suite of contracts.
  • Experience and understanding of hydraulic modelling as an evidence base to flood risk assessments / activity permits.
  • FCERM appraisal, water cycle study and water framework directive assessment experience would be beneficial, but not essential.

You will also be self‑motivated with an ability to work both autonomously and within a dynamic deadline‑driven team environment, showing a strong sense of commitment and a willingness to learn.
