We're recruiting on behalf of a leading prison education provider for a Functional Skills Assistant Education Manager based at HMP Onley.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced education professional ready to take the next step into leadership.
Working alongside the Education Manager and Senior Leadership Team, you'll take the lead on the management and quality of the Functional Skills provision, while also supporting the delivery of a broad vocational curriculum.
You'll play a key role in ensuring learners receive an outstanding education that prepares them for employment, further learning and successful rehabilitation.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and manage the Functional Skills curriculum, ensuring outstanding standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
- Support the Education Manager with the day-to-day running of the education department.
- Deputise for the Education Manager when required.
- Oversee curriculum delivery across Functional Skills, Development and other vocational areas.
- Monitor learner attendance, progress and achievement across all curriculum areas.
- Drive improvements in learner recruitment, retention, achievement and success rates.
- Analyse performance data and implement quality improvement plans.
- Lead Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) activities and support External Quality Assurance (EQA).
- Carry out lesson observations, learning walks and curriculum deep dives.
- Support the completion of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
- Coach, mentor and develop teaching staff through CPD and performance management.
- Support recruitment, induction and development of new staff.
- Build strong relationships with prison staff, stakeholders and awarding organisations.
- Deliver teaching sessions and provide classroom cover when required.
- Ensure compliance with Ofsted, Ministry of Justice, safeguarding and prison security standards. What We're Looking For
- Level 5 Teaching Qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS/Di T or equivalent).
- Level 3 qualifications in Maths and English (or equivalent).
- Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification, or willingness to achieve one.
- Significant experience delivering and managing Functional Skills provision within Further Education, Adult Learning or Vocational Education.
- Experience managing staff and leading curriculum delivery.
- Strong understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills. Desirable

- Knowledge of Ministry of Justice contracts.
- Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager qualification.
- Knowledge of adult education funding.
