We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager / Project Manager to lead the delivery of distribution substation renewal and remedial works on behalf of Northern Powergrid. This role is responsible for the end-to-end management of projects, from initial site assessment and estimating through to delivery and commercial close-out. The successful candidate will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, develop delivery programmes, and ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual and commercial requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and develop allocated substation sites for renewal and remedial works
- Coordinate initial surveys, feasibility assessments, and condition reporting
- Oversee electrical network appraisals to define scope and delivery approach
- Develop and manage detailed project delivery programmes
- Prepare and/or oversee project estimates and pricing submissions
- Manage budgets, cost forecasts, and financial performance
- Identify risks and opportunities to protect and enhance commercial outcomes
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and delivery targets
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including:
- Senior Authorised Persons (SAPs)
- Electrical engineers and designers
- Civils teams
- Jointers and fitters
- Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet programme requirements
- Liaise with internal departments and external partners
- Lead the delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion
- Monitor performance against programme and implement corrective actions
- Ensure technical standards, quality, and client expectations are met
- Maintain effective communication with Northern Powergrid stakeholders
- Take full responsibility for safe planning and execution of all works
- Promote a strong safety culture in line with Freedom and client expectations
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, statutory requirements, and company procedures
- Oversee risk assessments, method statements, and permit systems
Experience Required
- Proven, solid project management experience within utilities, power distribution, or infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of HV and LV electrical systems, particularly in substation environments
- Demonstrable experience coordinating multi-disciplinary operational teams
- Strong commercial awareness, including estimating and cost management
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong planning, coordination, and organisational ability
- Track record of delivering projects safely in construction/utilities environments
