Project Details: Water and sewer infrastructure safety upgrades

Location: Morpeth, NSW

Size: Miscellaneous hazchem upgrades for three separate wastewater treatment plans

Duration: 2022 – 2024

Project Managers: Cameron Black, Chris Barker, Monty Sharma, Andrew Fuller, Colin Gooding

ADW Johnson was engaged by Pensar to provide structural engineering, water and sewer design, and surveying services for three separate wastewater treatment plants in the Port Stephens region. The existing wastewater treatment plants required numerous hazchem upgrades for polymer and chemical dosing. Our engagement was part of a design and construct package by Pensar for the Hunter Water Corporation.

Civil & Structural Engineering

Structural engineering design and documentation was required for structures such as ladders, platforms, steel framing, and bracketing for chemical dosing units and pipelines throughout the various treatment plants. The project required specific detailing of steel connections and structural members as well as structural concrete pit details.

Hydraulic Design

For all three treatment plants, extensive water and sewer hydraulic detailing and design was required for connection to and extension of the existing pipeline assets and configurations. This work required a detailed understanding of the existing pipeline infrastructure and how it functioned, as well as the layout and system design within confined indoor areas. Our water and sewer engineers provided these details for lime and chlorine dosing pits, lime slurry pigtail feeders, agitators, and hydrated lime pipe modifications.

Surveying

To enable the structural and water and sewer design of the hazchem upgrades, a detail survey was completed by our surveyors of the immediate civil assets. In addition to this, state of the art point cloud and laser scanning was carried out to get accurate locations of existing pipelines and assets within confined spaces.

BIM Modelling and Visualisation

ADW Johnson also conducted 3D BIM modelling of various water and sewer assets which were integrated into the design workflow to ensure the proposed asset upgrades fit within the existing infrastructure to a fine degree of detail.
