We’re working with an ambitious, owner-led FMCG business as it strengthens its UK technical and compliance capability to support continued growth across grocery retail channels. With a portfolio spanning ambient and chilled products, the business is investing in strong technical leadership to ensure the highest standards of food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across its supply base. This is a key hire within a growing technical function, offering strong ownership and visibility across the business.

The Opportunity

As Technical Services Manager, you will take ownership of end-to-end technical compliance, ensuring all products meet UK retailer, legal, and food safety standards. You will act as a key interface between suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, and internal teams, protecting product integrity while enabling business growth. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for both day-to-day technical governance and longer-term system improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own technical compliance across the full product portfolio
  • Manage technical relationships with key retail customers
  • Oversee supplier approval, onboarding, and ongoing compliance
  • Manage product specifications, artwork approvals, and regulatory sign-off
  • Lead investigations and responses to quality issues, complaints, and product withdrawals/recalls if required
  • Monitor and interpret UK and EU food legislation and ensure compliance
  • Conduct and manage supplier audits (including BRCGS and retailer standards)
  • Drive continuous improvement across quality systems and processes

The Profile

  • Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related discipline
  • 3+ years’ experience in a technical or quality role within FMCG or food manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of UK retailer technical standards and expectations
  • Experience conducting or managing audits (BRCGS, retailer, or third-party)
  • Knowledge of UK/EU food legislation and labelling requirements
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive risk mindset
  • Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with suppliers and retailers
  • Highly organised, process-driven, and quality-focused
