Fightback4Justice is a registered not-for-profit organisation providing disability welfare benefits advice, advocacy and support to disabled people and their carers. A significant part of our work involves disability benefit forms and related casework, delivered in close collaboration with our sister organisation. We are seeking a capable, committed welfare benefits caseworker to join our small, fast-paced service. This is a hands-on role for a good all-rounder who is comfortable working in a busy environment, able to think on their feet, and apply sound judgement and common sense when dealing with complex situations.

The post holder will deliver high-quality welfare benefits advice and casework, including work linked to disability benefit forms and follow-on support. The role is office-based and requires a consistent and reliable presence at our Tottington office. Attendance at tribunal hearings may be required; own transport is preferred.

Key duties:
  • Providing specialist welfare benefits advice and casework mainly on the phone.
  • Working on disability benefit matters including PIP, DLA, ESA and Universal Credit.
  • Supporting clients with disability benefit forms and subsequent issues.
  • Working alongside our sister organisation to ensure continuity of support.
  • Supporting the busy advice line.
  • Advising on mandatory reconsiderations and appeals.
  • Providing clear, accurate advice by telephone and occasionally in person.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely case records.
Person specification:
  • Preferred one year's experience providing welfare benefits advice or at least one year in a similar busy office answering calls from members of the public, sometimes in quite stressful circumstances, and the ability to remain calm and offer reassurance to our service users is an essential quality.
  • Experience of disability benefits work or voluntary work where intensive training is required, such as CAB, welfare rights is an advantage.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written English skills and good verbal communication skills.
  • Confident and professional telephone manner.
  • Ability to think on your feet and use sound judgement and common sense.
  • Able to manage a varied caseload under pressure.
  • Adaptable, reliable and client-focused.
