Have you ever imagined being a Head Chef/ Kitchen Manager and still having a great social life? This role lets you balance an exciting culinary career with a fulfilling life outside of work. You will lead an established kitchen team and oversee the preparation of large-scale meals for staff, residents and visitors. The position also involves guiding and training your staff, and ensuring a smooth operation with a clean kitchen environment. Regular events such as world food day, Christmas, Easter, family days, four weekly themed events and Resident Choice days provide ample opportunities to be creative and make a difference. In addition to the kitchen duties, you will participate in a supportive, social environment where you can interact with people outside the kitchen on a regular basis. You can enjoy a great work‑life balance, with two days off per week and a relaxed working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day‑to‑day management of the catering team to run an efficient food production service.
  • Ensure the catering service meets the nutritional and dietary needs of service users.
  • Provide meals to residents, staff and visitors in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Lead the production of a menu plan, providing a varied diet within budgetary restraints.
  • Report any maintenance or servicing needs of catering equipment or the environment to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Seek feedback through resident surveys.
  • Respond to complaints or incidents, assist with investigations, and refer unresolved matters.
  • Manage stock and equipment in the production areas, reporting issues or concerns.
  • Design efficient staff rotas, plan agency and overtime cover, and ensure absences are covered within agreed budgets.
  • Assist in completing monthly audits of the catering provision to maintain standards.
  • Participate in regular meetings with other Head Chefs, Kitchen Managers and the Hospitality Development Manager.
  • Contribute to menu creation and implementation on site.
  • Compete in the Chef of the Year competition and collaborate with the multidisciplinary service to promote excellent food service.

Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent in English.
  • Catering Diploma (City & Guilds/BTEC) and Health & Safety and Food Hygiene Certificates.
  • City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) for Basic Food Preparation and Cooking.
  • Basic Food Hygiene (essential); Intermediate Food Hygiene (desirable).
  • Previous experience in a similar environment.
  • Management or supervisory qualification.
  • Experience delivering a service en masse.
  • Skills in menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control and budgeting.

  • Hourly rate of £15.50.
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave inclusive of bank holidays, pro‑rated per hours worked.
