We're looking for an experienced Senior SQL Developer to become the technical lead for our SQL Server estate.

What You'll Do
- Lead the design, development and continuous improvement of database solutions across the business
- Act as the technical authority for Microsoft SQL Server technologies, providing guidance and direction to the wider team
- Maintain and optimise business-critical SQL Server databases to ensure they remain secure, resilient and high performing
- Design, develop and review complex stored procedures, functions, views and database integrations
- Monitor database health and proactively identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability and reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, including performance bottlenecks and data integrity concerns
- Support database backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes
- Collaborate with developers, analysts and business stakeholders to translate requirements into practical technical solutions
- Conduct code reviews and promote development standards and best practices
- Mentor and support less experienced developers, helping to grow technical capability across the team
- Contribute to project planning by providing technical expertise, estimates and recommendations
- Research emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve our database platforms and development practices

- What You'll Bring
Experience
- 5+ years' experience designing and developing Microsoft SQL Server database solutions.
- Extensive experience administering and developing solutions using Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or later.
- Expert knowledge of T‑SQL development.
- Extensive experience writing and optimising complex stored procedures, functions, views and triggers.
- Strong experience designing relational database schemas and data models.
- Experience with ETL development using SSIS or equivalent technologies.
- Experience designing, supporting and optimising high‑volume transactional database environments.
- Database migration and upgrade experience.
- Technical Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of query optimisation, execution plan analysis and SQL performance troubleshooting.
- Locking, blocking and deadlock troubleshooting.
- Experience administering SQL Server Agent jobs, scheduling and automation.
- Experience designing and supporting SQL Server backup, restore and disaster recovery strategies.
- Strong understanding of SQL Server security, permissions and auditing.
- Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping and Replication.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database and/or Azure SQL Managed Instance.

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate large volumes of data.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

- Experience using Git and/or Azure Dev Ops for source control.
- Experience with SQL monitoring and performance tools (e. g. Redgate SQL Monitor, Sentry One, SQL Monitor).
