About the Role
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is seeking a Consultant Microbiologist to provide clinical leadership within Medical Microbiology. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of microbiology services within a modern healthcare facility, including involvement in workflow optimisation, quality systems, and future laboratory automation initiatives. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support infection management, diagnostics, and patient safety across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and laboratory oversight of microbiology services
- Lead development of laboratory protocols, workflows, and quality systems
- Support laboratory accreditation and continuous quality improvement
- Participate in Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) programmes
- Provide specialist microbiology advice to clinicians and hospital teams
- Contribute to education, training, and supervision of junior staff
- Participate in research, audit, and service development initiatives
Candidate Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Specialist qualification in Microbiology / Pathology (FRCPath, FRCPA or equivalent)
- Eligible for Specialist Registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
- Minimum 3 years’ post-specialist experience
- Experience in clinical microbiology and laboratory leadership
