Job Description:
You will provide person-centred care and support to a cheerful 7-year-old boy with chronic lung disease, helping him thrive in his local primary school environment. Your day will begin at his home, where you will accompany him safely to school, and conclude by escorting him home again. This little boy has a chronic lung disease, caused by prematurity at birth. This has resulted in his lungs collapsing which he had upper and lower airway stents fitted. The support this little boy requires is trache and peg management, also medications. He loves to go to school which he is in a mainstream school setting, he likes to have his identity maintained, attending social events, but most importantly supported to live a happy and fulfilling life. He is a happy and content little boy who likes to be reassured.
Key responsibilities include:
- Tracheostomy care
- PEG feeding
- Personal care and hygiene
- Equipment checks throughout your shift
You’ll support his health needs while encouraging safe self-feeding and promoting independence wherever possible. During the school day, you’ll help him engage fully in classroom and social activities, whether he's playing with his favourite toy cars, learning with classmates, or spending time with friends. This is a rewarding opportunity to build your clinical skills and make a real difference in a child’s daily life, all while being part of a supportive care team.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in tracheostomy is desirable.
