Hello, I am a male living in Stoke on Trent, I live with a C4 Frankel C tetraplegic following a car accident in 1995. My injuries included: foramina narrowing at C3/4 and C5/6, fracture of the pedicle C2, fracture of the lamina C3, fracture of C4, and a discectomy and fusion in 1996. I experience chronic pain, arthritis, and poor circulation. I have a spinal cord cyst at C4, which is monitored by my spinal injury consultants. I require continuous assistance and monitoring, particularly for signs and symptoms of Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD). My AD management is reviewed regularly by my spinal injury care team, including periodic consultations at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

A few years ago, I experienced a period of low motivation and anxiety, spending prolonged time in bed. To support my wellbeing, my family arranged for a companion dog. My dog, Mitzie, helps alleviate anxiety and depression, motivates me to get out of bed, and encourages me to spend time in the garden, improving my overall quality of life. My goal is to remain as independent as possible. Staff should always support and encourage my independence. I sometimes find it difficult to concentrate and I can sometimes be confused. I self-direct all of my care requirements and home needs; therefore, please always ask me what support I would like and how I wish tasks to be completed before you begin assisting me.
