We are looking for a Water Quality Scientist to join our team. The role will ensure we remain compliant with the regulatory standards for water quality and water supply. We are seeking an individual who is willing to develop their knowledge across multiple scientific disciplines, including elements of water quality, soil science, and public health. Whilst a significant proportion of the role will involve data analysis and report writing, there will also be opportunity to carry out site inspections and interface with developers, customers and regulators. This role will operate on a hybrid basis, primarily from our Head Office in Braintree, Essex. Fully remote working may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring water quality sampling and analysis requirements are correctly scheduled with the contract laboratory and that results are received in line with SLAs.
- Analysis and reporting of water quality data, including preparation and submission of the monthly compliance tables to the Drinking Water Inspectorate.
- Undertaking Drinking Water Safety Plan assessments (water quality risk management) for new and existing developments.
- Interpretation and assessment of contaminated land soil reports for the purposes of pipe material selection.
- Investigating customer water quality complaints and sample failures, including onsite inspections.
- Auditing partner organisations compliance against regulatory, industry and internal standards.
- Liaison with incumbent water company water quality teams to ensure that the requirements of the bulk supply water quality protocols are met.
- Assisting in the maintenance of the Water Quality and Regulation Manual to ensure the information and references contained within the documents are current.
- Maintaining the water quality pages on the company website and social media.
- Supporting the out of hours rota as and when required including the delivery of alternative supplies in the event of a water quality incident.
The Person
- Competent in the use of Excel for data analysis, Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Confident in writing scientific reports.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present information verbally to stakeholders.
- Previous use of geographical Information Systems such as ArcGIS would be desirable.
