As a EHV Design Engineer you will be working on a range of interesting ventures across predominantly residential infrastructure design. You will be completing detailed design work for electrical infrastructure projects from 33kV up to 132kV. From budget design to operational handover, you will ensure that designs are technically and commercially compliant and delivered within agreed timescales. This emerging market space is well suited for design engineers wanting to further develop their existing skills in designing the infrastructure to these new technological advances, where we will offer support with your professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of compliant and high-quality electrical designs for 33kV - 132kV ICP connections.
- Providing innovative solutions to enable grid connections in a timely manner.
- Undertake the role of Designer under CDM regulations.
- Carrying out cable capacity calculations, load flow studies, protection studies and earthing studies.
- Ensure designs are compliant with legislation, industry and adopting utility specifications and all HSEQ requirements.
- Delivering and reviewing electricity infrastructure designs, switchgear specifications, multicore block diagrams, wiring diagrams and cable schedules, site and switchroom layouts.
- Obtain relevant IDNO and DNO design approvals.

To be successful within this role you will have experience of providing technical support in developing electrical engineering solutions. You will also have a clear understanding of your responsibilities under CDM regulations.
Experience and Skills
- Degree qualified in Electrical Power Systems/Electrical Engineering.
- Detailed Knowledge of UK Transmission & Distribution industry.
- Strong knowledge and experience of DNO and IDNO technical requirements, including G81 standards.
- PV/generation/battery storage technical knowledge.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations (G99, G100, P28, P29 etc).
- Previous experience in working on utilities or major infrastructure projects.
- Effective communication skills, to include management of key working relationships.
- Proven experience in the design of both AIS & GIS substations up to 132kV.
- Experience in the grid connection application process.
- Knowledge of IET codes of practice is desirable (Electric Vehicles, PV systems, Electrical Storage).
- Knowledge of BS th edition is desirable.
- Qualified as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer is desirable.
