Job Outline: My client, who is a world leading developer of Optical Systems and Instrumentation, now seeks a motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dedicated R&D Team. Based at my client’s facility in Oxfordshire, you will play a central role in the design and integration of precision mechanical systems, working on compact opto-mechanical assemblies to larger multi-discipline systems and instruments. You will lead and own the mechanical design of complex systems, sub-systems and components from concept through to manufacture, as well as driving system integration across mechanical, optical, electronic and software disciplines.

Within the role, you will produce detail drawings with material, finish and tolerance specifications suitable for manufacture, as well as ensuring BOMs, work instructions and design records are correct and maintained up to date. In addition to this you will also lead or support the build and test of prototype assemblies, working hands-on in the workshop and lab, as well as designing and delivering finished products, jigs, fixtures and internal development rigs and setups.

As the successful candidate, you should have demonstrable experience in system integration, as well as defining and managing mechanical interfaces to optical, electronic and structural sub-systems. In return my client can offer a diverse and interesting role within a positive and growing company.

Qualifications: It is expected that you will have a minimum of 5 years in a relevant mechanical design role, along with experience of SolidWorks. It is also expected that you will have a good knowledge of current materials, manufacturing processes and their capabilities (machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting, etc.)

Additional information: Candidates MUST be eligible to live and work in the UK, without requiring sponsorship. Copies of Passports and/or Visas will be requested for verification.
