Advanced Studies in England (ASE) is a study abroad program located in the historic city of Bath, welcoming undergraduate students from U.

S. colleges for semester, year-long, and summer study.

ASE offers small seminar-style courses across disciplines including English, Creative Writing, Theatre and Film, Social and Political Science, and History, often complemented by internships or one-on-one tutorials, many with partners at Oxford University.

  • Role Description
  • Due to the unexpected withdrawal of a member of our faculty, we have urgent need for a

Lecturer in Politics.

This is a part-time contract teaching two classes on a Tuesday at our study centre in central Bath .

The role involves planning and delivering undergraduate-level Politics courses in small seminar settings, fostering critical thinking, debate, and independent inquiry.

There are existing syllabuses which can be used or tweaked.

Responsibilities include: delivering two seminar classes each week both on the subject of the UK political system; one is to a third year group (of 4 students), the other to a first-year group (of eight students), and marking assessed work. Full admin support will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic background in Politics, International Relations, or related Social/Political Science fields; a relevant postgraduate degree (Master’s or Ph D) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated university-level teaching experience, especially in small-group or seminar formats, with the ability to facilitate discussion and support diverse learning styles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and academic writing skills, with the ability to explain complex political concepts clearly to undergraduate students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a student-centered approach, including mentoring, providing constructive feedback, and supporting students from varied cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and to contribute to program initiatives, co-curricular activities, and community engagement.
  • Some understanding of U. S. higher education expectations and experience with study abroad or international education is an advantage.
  • Commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory teaching practices and the promotion of global citizenship and cross-cultural understanding.
