The team at Advanced Space is leading humanity back to the Moon and pioneering innovative solutions in the space industry. Based in Westminster, Colorado, this incredible team is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer who’s eager to push the state of the art in the aerospace industry. This position is responsible for designing, building, and testing machine learning models and systems that can solve real-world problems in domains such as spacecraft autonomy, anomaly detection and classification, natural language processing, uncertainty quantification, and multimodal signal detection & characterization. This position will be headquartered at our Westminster, Colorado offices and is primarily an on-premises position.
The Machine Learning Engineer will work closely with an engineering team composed primarily of aerospace and software engineers. The ideal candidate has a strong background in software development best practices, mathematics, and statistics, as well as experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch. Candidates should also have excellent programming skills in Python and be familiar with data processing and analysis tools. Candidates should be able to work independently and collaboratively. Candidates should also have a passion for learning, innovation, and furthering Advanced Space’s mission to support the sustainable exploration, development, and settlement of space.

Responsibilities:
- Research and implement state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms and techniques
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and systems that can address various engineering problems and opportunities
- Perform data analysis, preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation
- Optimize the performance, scalability, and reliability of machine learning solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the requirements and deliver high-quality products
- Document and communicate the results and insights of machine learning projects
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of hands-on professional experience. Master’s degree or PhD research may contribute to this experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
- Proficient with one or more machine learning model development frameworks, especially PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Familiar with the basics of machine learning (i.e. linear layers, activation functions, recurrence, convolution, attention).
- Proficiency in Python programming language
- Expertise in a programming language (Python preferred)
- Familiar with data processing and analysis tools such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, etc.
- Knowledge of machine learning concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, classification, regression, clustering, dimensionality reduction, etc.
- Experience with applying machine learning to real-world problems, such as aerospace engineering or another discipline in the sciences.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient with git version control
- Familiar with the principles and practice of aerospace engineering and/or another engineering field. Examples include nonlinear estimation, numerical simulation, nonlinear optimization, and control theory.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Base Salary Range – $88,906- $115,646 based on role, employee experience, and location
