VTS Officer – Permanent – Kent, UK – £ Excellent package

One of the UK\’s leading ports is recruiting for a VTS Officer to join the team in Kent.

The key responsibilities will include (but not exhaustive to);

  • Ensure the safety of navigation and environmental protection within the Port of Dover, adhering to the Port Marine Safety Code.
  • Monitor and regulate the movement of all vessels within the port and its jurisdiction.
  • Advise masters/pilots of passing vessels or other movements during their passage.
  • Allocate berths to vessels entering or manoeuvring within the port according to pre-planned schedules.
  • Arrange, in conjunction with the Duty Harbour Master, the allocation of berths for unscheduled arrivals, including lay-bys for repairs and de-storing.

The successful candidate must have a GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths at Grade 4 or above. A degree-level education or demonstrable experience in operational management and planning is also required. Additionally, candidates must be able to achieve a CO103/1 certificate.

Previous experience within VTS or a comparable industry, or as an Officer of the Watch as defined by STCW, is essential. Proficiency with MS Office, along with strong analytical and technical aptitude, and good spatial awareness, are necessary skills for this role.

Candidates must be able to work shifts, including days and nights, and show a willingness to work overtime if required.

The Port Operates 365 days per year, and you will be required to work a shift pattern of days and nights averaging 42hr week.
