We are currently seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of key rail infrastructure projects by managing engineering activities across the full project lifecycle. This role is responsible for ensuring that all design and construction works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Network Rail and Railway Group standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage design and construction activities for allocated projects, ensuring technical delivery meets time, cost, quality, and safety targets.
  • Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost-effective, high-quality and environmentally responsible approach to engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards, and formal specifications.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and key stakeholders as necessary to support project delivery.
  • Ensure engineering activities result in affordable solutions aligned with programme requirements.
  • Apply and maintain techniques for quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis throughout the project.
  • Manage the environmental aspects of projects in accordance with Network Rail’s environmental policy.
  • Monitor the performance of design consultants, specialists, and contractors, providing engineering support and project management advice as needed.
  • Support all phases of construction, including testing, commissioning, and site supervision.
  • Undertake formal reviews and audits of design and construction activities to ensure safety, environmental, and quality standards are met.
  • Carry out duties as Designated Project Engineer (DPE) on specified projects.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrated experience in engineering project management within the rail or infrastructure sector.
  • Must have PTS Licence.
  • Strong working knowledge of Network Rail systems, standards, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage compliance with technical, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Skilled in risk assessment, HAZOP analysis, and contractor auditing.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Relevant engineering degree and professional qualifications (IEng or CEng preferred).
