About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to support a major engineering programme, working closely with the Project Chief Engineer to ensure the technical integrity of the full system and its subsystems. You will lead architecture development, integration activities, and supplier engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership — Work with the Project Chief Engineer to identify and resolve system-level issues.
  • Deputising — Act as deputy for the Project Chief Engineer when required.
  • Architecture Ownership — Lead the architecture team in developing and documenting system architecture.
  • Subsystem Integration — Lead integration activities across all subsystems.
  • Supplier Management — Engage with technical suppliers to ensure alignment and delivery.
  • Requirements Influence — Shape requirements to support design decisions and trade-offs.
  • Risk & Opportunity Management — Provide direction on technical risks and opportunities.
  • Verification & Test Support — Support test planning and verification for certification and delivery.
  • Stakeholder Engagement — Influence key stakeholders, including customers and end users.
  • Design Review Support — Support subsystem teams through design reviews.
  • Travel — UK and international travel to customers and partners.

Required Experience

  • Systems & Project Lifecycles — Strong understanding of system lifecycles, baselines, and change control.
  • Systems Architecture — Proven experience leading architecture activities.
  • Subsystem Integration — Experience integrating supplier subsystems for demonstration.
  • Design Influence — Ability to influence system-level design and integration.
  • Stakeholder Management — Experience managing stakeholders in high-pressure environments.
  • Design Reviews — Experience in passing design reviews and implementing corrective actions.

Desirable:

  • EW/Radar Knowledge — Understanding of passive/active RF systems.
  • Progressive Assurance — Knowledge of systems integration and progressive assurance.
