I'm currently working with a leading international ship management organisation seeking an experienced HSEQ Superintendent to join their London office. This is an excellent opportunity for an ex-Chief Engineer or Master Mariner with tanker experience to move into, or further develop, a shore-based HSEQ career within a highly regarded international shipping business.

Who We're Looking For

  • Former Chief Engineers or Master Mariners with tanker sailing experience
  • Candidates already working in shore-based roles with experience in:
    • Internal and external audits
    • Incident and accident investigations
    • Root cause analysis
    • Safety management system compliance

The Role

Working as part of the Fleet Operations team, you will be responsible for driving HSEQ performance across a fleet of vessels, ensuring compliance with international regulations, industry best practice and company standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing vessel audit programmes and follow-up actions
  • Conducting incident and accident investigations
  • Monitoring safety performance, KPIs and near-miss reporting
  • Supporting SIRE, PSC, Flag State and internal audit processes
  • Maintaining and improving the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Supporting emergency response preparedness and drills
  • Driving continuous improvement across safety, quality and environmental performance
  • Supporting ISO, ISM, ISPS and MLC compliance activities

Experience Required

  • Seagoing experience as a Chief Engineer or Master Mariner
  • Strong tanker shipping background
  • Good understanding of:
    • ISM Code
    • ISPS Code
    • MLC
    • TMSA
    • SIRE inspections
  • Experience in auditing and investigation activities preferred
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
