Architect / Architectural Technologist – 11-Month Contract

Why This Role?

  • High-profile rail infrastructure: Work on the extension and refurbishment of Cardiff Central Station—a landmark project with genuine complexity and profile worth having on your CV
  • Top-tier client: Join a leading UK multi-disciplinary design and engineering consultancy (top 5 AJ100 practice) with real depth across rail, structures, and building services
  • True collaboration: Work in a balanced team environment with architects, technologists, engineers, and rail specialists—not siloed drawing production
  • 11-month contract: Solid duration with a reputable client, inside IR35, office-based in Cardiff

The Project

You’ll be working on the technical design and construction stages of Cardiff Central Station's extension and refurbishment. This is RIBA Stage 4 delivery and beyond—producing architectural drawings, schedules, and specifications for a live rail environment where design intent meets the practical challenges of buildability, compliance, and budget.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Part of the architecture delivery team working through technical design (RIBA Stage 4) into construction
  • Producing architectural technical drawings, schedules, and specifications
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team including building design and rail disciplines
  • Developing pragmatic design solutions that respond to the client brief within the constraints of a complex rail environment
  • Taking ownership of specific packages or areas of work within the project

What We’re Looking For

  • Essential: ARB Part 3 qualified (3-5 years post-certification) or CIAT Chartered (3-5 years post-chartership)
  • Demonstrable experience on complex projects through technical delivery and construction stages
  • Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations
  • Proficiency in CAD/Revit (Bentley/OpenBuildings Designer experience highly desirable)
  • Ideally: Experience on transportation (particularly rail), commercial, or public sector projects
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for specific work packages
  • Strong team player with interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines

Contract Details

  • Duration: 11-12 months, starting ASAP
  • Pay rate: £27.06/hr (inside IR35, on payroll)
  • Hours: 37.5/week
  • Location: Cardiff (office-based)
  • Notice period: 4 weeks either side
  • Security clearance: Basic level required (may require proof of 5+ years UK residency)

Our end client is keen to move quickly for the right candidate.
