Senior Release, Platform & Environment Manager

6-Month contract - Inside IR35 - up to £530 per day

Hybrid working - 2-3 days onsite - either London, Birmingham or Glasgow

Must be eligible for Security Clearance

The role will assess the current non-production environment estate, establish a clear view of environment status and dependencies, improve environment, release and configuration-management processes, and develop practical recommendations and a phased improvement roadmap.

Key responsibilities

  • Review existing engagement documentation, findings and work completed to date.
  • Rapidly establish the status of the client's non-production environments.
  • Validate the environment inventory across the in-scope platforms and applications.
  • Identify environment ownership, purpose, availability, current usage and dependencies.
  • Review existing release-management and deployment processes.
  • Assess routes to live across development, system testing, UAT, pre-production and production.
  • Facilitate workshops with platform leads, architects, DevOps teams, release managers, test managers, value streams and third parties.
  • Capture environment requirements for development, functional testing, integration testing, UAT and performance testing.
  • Review the current DevOps, CI/CD and deployment-tooling landscape.
  • Identify manual environment and deployment activities that could be automated.

Essential experience

  • Extensive experience in enterprise environment management, release management, deployment management or platform operations.
  • Proven experience assessing complex environment estates and establishing their current operational status.
  • Experience restoring, stabilising or improving non-production environments.
  • Strong experience coordinating releases and deployments across multiple applications, projects and technical teams.
  • Experience developing and maintaining environment and release calendars.
  • Strong understanding of routes to live across development, testing, UAT, pre-production and production.
  • Experience defining and embedding practical release, deployment and environment-management processes.
  • Strong understanding of software configuration management, version control and deployment artefact management.
  • Experience managing configuration baselines, environment-specific settings and configuration drift.
  • Experience working with third-party software vendors and managed-service providers.
  • Experience defining operational runbooks, support procedures and stakeholder communications.
  • Working knowledge of Azure, cloud platforms, DevOps tooling and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Git-based source control and automated build and deployment tooling.

Desirable experience

  • Familiarity with Plutora, ServiceNow, BMC Helix or similar IT service-management tooling.
  • Experience improving CMDB quality and configuration-management processes.
  • Experience managing product upgrades, platform re-establishment or vendor-supported software installations.
  • ITIL or relevant release, environment, configuration or DevOps certification.
