  • 5-Month contract - Inside IR35 - up to £600 per day

  • JOB PURPOSE

The overall purpose of this role is to carry out impact analyses and design activities on a range of applications.

Assessing how best to meet requirements is key, preferably using a methodological approach.

You will be working closely with the IS Project Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Testers and end users.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Business Analysts and end users to understand the project aims, requirements and priorities of each initiative.
  • Develop an understanding of the business processes, their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Assess the impact of meeting the requirements on the applications portfolio.
  • Identify the design options, assess these and recommend the most appropriate solution.
  • Work closely with the Architecture, Development and Testing teams to ensure effective implementation of the chosen design.
  • Assess success of the design in meeting the requirements post deployment and learn from the experience.
  • Contribute to prioritisation and phasing plans in liaison with the Project Manager.
  • Help the Project Manager run development using Agile frameworks.
  • Facilitate estimation sessions to help plan and cost new work.
  • Test or help to test applications and system changes when required.
  • Be part of inter-team design initiatives and share knowledge with other Systems Analysts so that work across all systems is coherent.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Technical & Professional Skills
  • Experience in systems analysis and design of new applications and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Experience of requirements capture.
  • Experience of business modelling in the form of process flows and entity modelling using UML.
  • Ability to use prototyping or mock-ups where appropriate.
  • Experience of capturing and documenting of non-functional requirements.
  • Knowledge of how to effectively perform impact analysis.
  • Experience of producing specifications to a level of detail that will allow the Development team to progress with the implementation.
  • Knowledge of Agile/iterative development methodologies.
  • Ability to work with Team Foundation Server in creating user stories, tasks and grooming backlogs.
  • Good estimation skills and the ability to work with developers to create development estimates, for example in a poker planning session.
  • Good SQL and database design skills.
  • Experience of structured test plans and their execution, including on systems that may not be familiar to you.
  • Experience in assessing 3rd party tools/software and carrying out gap analysis.
  • The role requires some experience of the full systems development lifecycle from inception to support.
  • Knowledge of service‑orientated architecture and domain driven design would be an advantage.
  • Exposure to Project Management.
  • Experience of the media industry, especially broadcasting, would be a distinct advantage - but is by no means essential to the role.
  • Knowledge of composable architecture and microservices would be an advantage
  • Experience in cloud technologies, AWS and/or Azure.
  • Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
  • Acumen to identify and act on any wider business issues that need to be reported back to the IS department, including audit considerations.
  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively within a team.
  • Self‑motivated and capable to handle autonomy.
  • Capable of making design decisions with support of Architecture, Development and Testing teams.
  • Relationship Management (internal, external, 3rd parties)
  • Excellent communication skills: persuasive, with the ability to present ideas verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non‑technical audience is vital.
  • Strong customer facing skills.
  • Experience of dealing with 3rd parties in addressing business developments.
  • Complexity/Problem Solving
  • The ideal candidate will have experience of a range of medium‑large multi‑user systems and will be able to quickly grasp the essentials of existing systems and how they interact.
  • Solid analysis skills are essential.
  • Strong investigative abilities and attention to detail are vital.
  • Ability to handle conflicting opinions within a team and to gain a consensus on the way forward.
  • Flexible and adaptable, capable to perform well within a fast changing environment.
