This is an Inside IR35 role that will require some UK-wide travel. As an Overhead Line Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical design and delivery of overhead line projects, from concept through to construction support. You will collaborate closely with project managers, construction teams, and stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design overhead power line systems, including the selection of structures, conductors, and insulators
- Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using AutoCAD and PLS-CADD
- Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather design data
- Perform technical calculations and analysis to ensure structural integrity and electrical performance
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines
- Support project teams by integrating design requirements into project plans
- Review and approve design changes and provide technical support during construction
- Carry out design reviews and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Stay up to date with advancements in overhead line design and related technologies
You will be a motivated and technically strong engineer with a passion for overhead line design and delivery.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline (preferably Electrical or Power Engineering)
- Proven experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV
- Experience on upgrade projects, including the use of High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors
- Willingness and ability to travel as project requirements dictate
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and/or PLS-TOWER
- Knowledge of galloping studies.
