Environmental Consultant – Southwest
Location: Exeter or Bristol (with flexible working options)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant to support a key highways infrastructure design contract as part of a national renewals framework. This role offers the chance to contribute to a high-value, multi-disciplinary highways programme, delivering environmentally sound infrastructure solutions in collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams.
The Role
You will be part of a wider environmental team providing expert support on highway drainage and civil schemes. Duties will include:
- Advising on environmental aspects such as assessments, ecological studies, permitting, and mitigation strategies.
- Conducting environmental site visits, inspections, and surveys across multiple disciplines (structures, geotechnical, drainage, highways).
- Preparing high-quality reports and technical documentation for planning submissions and statutory consultations.
- Supporting the preparation and audit of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), and advising on Section 61 consents.
- Coordinating with clients, regulators, and internal teams to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Contributing to bid writing and supporting junior staff as needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an Environmental Consultant or similar, ideally with highways or infrastructure project exposure.
- Excellent understanding of UK environmental legislation, planning processes, and best practice.
- Competent in environmental risk assessment and hazard management in line with CDM regulations.
- Strong report writing, client liaison, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related subject.
- Practitioner membership of IEMA (PIEMA) or similar professional body preferred.
