Location: Bournemouth - Hybrid. 2 days a week (Wednesday a must onsite)

Pay: £40.04 per hour | Contract: 18 months - Ends February 2028

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Flood & Coastal Principal Project Manager to lead the delivery of large, complex and high-profile flood and coastal projects and programmes across the South West. You will provide senior project leadership, overseeing governance, delivery, risk, resources, procurement and budgets. You will work with senior stakeholders, local government partners, consultants and contractors to deliver successful outcomes and provide assurance to senior decision-makers.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead complex projects and programmes from development through to delivery.
  • Establish and maintain strong governance, reporting and assurance arrangements.
  • Manage budgets, procurement, risks, issues, resources and programme interdependencies.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams, consultants and contractors.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and support organisational change.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and CDM Client duties.
  • Develop and improve project and programme management processes and standards.

About you

  • Extensive experience delivering large or high-profile projects/programmes.
  • Strong financial governance and budget management experience.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers.
  • Good knowledge of local government governance, funding and partnership working.
  • Excellent senior stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Experience managing health and safety and fulfilling CDM Client duties.
  • A strong understanding of the Contractor and Principal Designer roles.

Hybrid working

This role is based in Bournemouth with two days per week required in the office. Wednesday is a mandatory office day, with the second day agreed with the team. The remainder of the role can be performed remotely, subject to business requirements.

Additional information

The role may involve lone working. It is not politically restricted and does not require a DBS check or health surveillance.
