BESS O&M Service Engineer
Location: London / Oxfordshire Sites / Hybrid
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
The Opportunity
ARM is recruiting for an experienced BESS O&M Service Engineer to support the operation, maintenance and performance optimisation of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems across the UK.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business within the energy transition sector, ensuring BESS assets operate safely, reliably and efficiently in line with contractual requirements.
The role combines field-based site work, troubleshooting, remote operations and home working, alongside technical documentation, maintenance planning and corrective maintenance support.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on BESS systems and associated infrastructure.
- Perform remote operations, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Conduct site inspections using appropriate tools and test equipment.
- Support safe operation of battery storage systems, PCS/inverters and EMS.
- Ensure compliance with site-specific Health & Safety requirements.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure third-party works meet quality and compliance standards.
- Support commissioning, upgrades and major repairs.
- Review maintenance documentation, manuals and technical drawings.
- Support development of maintenance procedures, RAMS and Method Statements.
- Work with LTSA management and H&S teams on relevant procedures and documentation.
- Liaise with OEM suppliers regarding maintenance procedures and technical queries.
- Support preparation of annual maintenance plans for BESS projects.
- Provide on-call support for urgent site issues outside normal working hours.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in BESS, Energy Storage, Renewables, Solaror the Power sector.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
- Strong knowledge of LV systems, batteries, PCS/inverters and Energy Management Systems.
- Practical experience in BESS Operations & Maintenance.
- ECS/CSCS card or eligibility to obtain one.
- Good knowledge of UK HSE regulations and safe working practices.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to UK sites.
- A proactive and solution-focused approach.
- Flexibility to participate in out-of-hours/on-call coverage.
Experience with HV operations, battery system training or specific PCS/OEM training would be highly advantageous.
