The Project
You will be working on the technical design and construction stages of Cardiff Central Station's extension and refurbishment. This is RIBA Stage 4 delivery and beyond—producing architectural drawings, schedules, and specifications for a live rail environment where design intent meets the practical challenges of buildability, compliance, and budget.
What You'll Be Doing
- Part of the architecture delivery team working through technical design (RIBA Stage 4) into construction
- Producing architectural technical drawings, schedules, and specifications
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team including building design and rail disciplines
- Developing pragmatic design solutions that respond to the client brief within the constraints of a complex rail environment
- Taking ownership of specific packages or areas of work within the project
What We're Looking For
- Essential: ARB Part 3 qualified (3-5 years post-certification) or CIAT Chartered (3-5 years post-chartership)
- Demonstrable experience on complex projects through technical delivery and construction stages
- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations
- Proficiency in CAD/Revit (Bentley/OpenBuildings Designer experience highly desirable)
- Ideally: Experience on transportation (particularly rail), commercial, or public sector projects
- Comfortable taking responsibility for specific work packages
- Strong team player with interpersonal skills and attention to detail
- Able to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines
Contract Details
- Duration: 12 months, starting 1 February 2026
- Pay rate: £27.06/hr (inside IR35, on payroll)
- Hours: 37.5/week
- Location: Cardiff (office-based)
- Notice period: 4 weeks either side
- Security clearance: Basic level required (may require proof of 5+ years UK residency)
