The Advanced Research Computing group at Cardiff University (ARCCA) have an exciting opportunity available for up to three experienced Research Software Engineers (RSEs) to get involved in supporting research across the university, specialising in one of the following areas:

  • Data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • High Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Dev Ops – infrastructure-as-code and automation
  • Scientific software engineering – e.g. statistics or modelling

As a key member of the inaugural ARCCA RSE team, you can expect to foster collaborations and build partnerships with leading academics, both internally and with the wider external research community, enabling the translation of innovative research into functioning, reproducible software, using techniques and best practices at the forefront of current knowledge.

You should be able to demonstrate significant experience and skills in Linux based software development, version control (git) use in addition to effective programming and debugging skills in at least one relevant language (e.g. Python, R, C, C++, Bash). Knowledge and experience of open source software development, security and data science tools will be highly desirable – the successful candidate can also expect their knowledge in these areas to significantly increase whilst in the role.

The salary range is Β£41,064 – Β£46,049 per annum (Grade 6) for the open-ended positions, benefitting from a 35 hour week with 37 days annual holiday + bank holidays and a generous USS pension.
