Advanced Football Development Academy (AFDA) Ltd is an innovative Alternative Provision (AP) provider based in Whetstone, Leicester, dedicated to supporting young people who require a personalised approach to education. Our inclusive provision works in partnership with schools, local authorities and families to re‑engage students with learning through a combination of education, mentoring, wellbeing, vocational pathways and sport. This is a full‑time, on‑site Alternative Provision Mentor / Sports Engagement Practitioner role based in Leicester. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs by delivering engaging activities that encourage participation, personal growth and educational success. Sport, particularly football, will be used as one of several engagement tools to build positive relationships and motivate learners.

The role includes:

  • Supporting students throughout the school day
  • Promoting positive behaviour
  • Encouraging attendance and engagement
  • Assisting with educational and vocational programmes
  • Delivering practical activities
  • Helping students achieve recognised qualifications

The successful candidate will work closely with schools, families, external agencies and the wider AFDA team to ensure every learner receives high‑quality support tailored to their individual needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Building positive relationships with students
  • Delivering engaging sport and enrichment sessions
  • Supporting educational activities and vocational learning
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Contributing to student progress reviews and reports
  • Working alongside schools, parents and partner agencies
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, health and safety
  • Supporting trips, enrichment activities and community projects
  • Promoting AFDA’s inclusive Alternative Provision across Leicester and the surrounding areas

Person Specification:

  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly those requiring additional support
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • A passion for helping young people achieve positive outcomes
  • Experience delivering sport, mentoring, coaching or youth engagement programmes
  • A good understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management and child protection
  • The ability to motivate and inspire young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Relevant coaching, teaching, youth work or mentoring qualifications are desirable
  • First Aid and safeguarding qualifications are advantageous
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable
