Are you an experienced Shift Engineer looking for your next challenge with a global manufacturing business that genuinely invests in its people? Our client is a leading name in sustainable paper and packaging, with a strong commitment to employee development, safety, quality and continuous improvement. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Shift Engineer to join their established engineering team at their Weston-super-Mare site.

The Role

As a Shift Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring maximum machine uptime and reliability across the site. Working closely with Operations and the wider Engineering team, you will provide proactive engineering support, lead breakdown response and contribute to both short- and long-term reliability improvements. This is a hands-on role where your mechanical and electrical engineering expertise, diagnostic ability and problem-solving skills will have a direct impact on site performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and successfully complete breakdown activities, minimising downtime and disruption to production.
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical fault finding and engineering activities.
  • Support and contribute to the site's preventative and predictive maintenance strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability and overall equipment performance.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Conversion, Corrugator and Despatch teams.
  • Provide technical support and coaching to machine operators where required.
  • Manage the booking out and ordering of engineering parts.
  • Liaise with OEMs and external suppliers when necessary.
  • Utilise and develop preventative maintenance systems, including SAP PM.
  • Contribute to engineering targets, KPIs, safety standards and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated engineer who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys getting to the root cause of technical problems. You will ideally have:

  • At least 5 years' engineering experience within an FMCG/manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic and steam systems.
  • Experience fault finding on AC and DC drives, including Siemens, ABB, SSD or similar.
  • Good knowledge of Siemens S5/S7 and Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, IT and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to prioritise your workload and work effectively under pressure.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of an Engineering team.
