POSITION SUMMARY:
A Manufacturing Engineer develops, implements, and maintains methods, tools, and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies.
This role will identify, and own projects deliver continuous improvement, including improvements to existing processes, developing new processes and identifying and leading capital investment projects.
Due to its technical nature, a key part of the role will be to develop encapsulation processes for High Voltage power electronic assemblies transition from Advanced Engineering, NPI (New Product introduction) to Production release. Acting as an interface between Operations and Engineering and ensuring the supervision and training of any newly introduced processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define, develop, and conduct a Total Productive Maintenance scheme for Encapsulation equipment.
- Work with Advanced Engineering team to develop and characterize encapsulation material grades for High voltage design solutions.
- Participate in external encapsulation technology discussions, support communication with external encapsulation vendors, and create and maintain encapsulation documentation.
- Evaluate, validate, and implement new equipment, materials, and processes through simulation and experimentation.
- Takes a leadership role in driving Continuous Improvement projects to elevate product performance in manufacturing, resulting in improvements to Safety, Quality, Delivery or Cost.
- Advise, justify and implement the procurement of capital investment and expensed tooling to support the necessary production capacity and to consistently advance the manufacturing facility.
- Recommend and implement adjustments to the processes to maintain satisfactory line balancing to support appropriate TAKT times.
- Prepare and maintain build time standards from which improvements can be measured and monitored.
- Liaise with the manufacturing teams and other departments including design engineering and purchasing to resolve assembly difficulties and challenges.
- Liaise with Design, Test Engineering, and Documentation teams, to ensure products are designed and engineered to allow the most efficient and effective manufacture, encapsulation and test.
SKILLS:
- Methodical reasoning, organisational/planning skills, and the ability to work as part of a team in a pressured environment.
- Must have strong problem-solving attributes using industry recognised tools.
- Be experienced in world class manufacturing techniques: TAKT /line balancing, Kanban Systems, process flow mapping, design for manufacture, lean and pull systems.
- Have a working knowledge of encapsulation Material technologies and relevant process for mixing, degassing and curing (desirable)
- Jig and fixture design that minimize operator error and simplify process.
- Thorough understanding of material characterization techniques of properties (desirable)
- Ability to collaborate and involve others in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Communicate openly and effectively in a professional manner and can work with limited supervision.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of relevant Production/Manufacturing role, directly supporting an Operations function
- Previous experience in High Voltage power supply encapsulation processes. (Desirable)
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline
- A relevant qualification in Lean Manufacturing would be advantageous
