Advance TRS are currently partnering with a leading rail infrastructure contractor to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in the South East. This is an excellent opportunity to join a major rail framework with long-term work security, supporting the delivery of a substantial programme of maintenance and renewals works.
The Opportunity
Our client is delivering works as part of a long-term rail framework and is looking to strengthen its commercial team with the appointment of a Senior Quantity Surveyor. This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a high-volume cost management environment, supporting live infrastructure works and working closely with both operational and commercial teams to maintain control of cost, forecasting and reporting. This is not a heavily contractual or claims-driven role. Instead, it is better suited to someone with strong commercial and cost management capability who is comfortable operating within a collaborative project environment.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and reporting project costs across a live programme of rail works
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cost control activities
- Understanding and managing the impact of cost escalation and commercial risk
- Working closely with operational teams to gather information and challenge where necessary
- Reviewing large volumes of cost data and presenting it clearly to support commercial decision-making
- Supporting the wider commercial team in maintaining commercial control across a busy workbook
- Building effective relationships across project, delivery and commercial functions
About You
The successful candidate is likely to have experience operating in a Senior QS or experienced QS capacity within a rail, infrastructure or major projects environment. You will ideally have:
- 5-10 years' quantity surveying / commercial experience
- Experience managing cost within a large organisation, framework or major project environment
- Strong understanding of:
- cost reporting and forecasting
- budget management
- cost escalation and risk mitigation
- commercial processes within construction or infrastructure
- Ideally, experience within the rail sector, or a good understanding of infrastructure project delivery
- The confidence to challenge operational teams and obtain the information required to manage cost effectively
- A proactive, resilient and organised approach
