My client, a leading company in the UK construction and infrastructure industry, has an exciting opportunity within their Energy Division for an ambitious and talented Senior Design Manager working on Substation projects. Following a period of significant success in securing projects within the Energy sector, they are looking to add an experienced professional to their dynamic and dedicated management team. They seek individuals with a strong background in the main contracting market, who share their passion for delivering high-quality projects in a collaborative and hardworking environment.

The Role

As a Senior Design Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the design aspects of tenders, preconstruction activities, and live projects.
  • Overseeing preconstruction and early contractor involvement (ECI) design activities.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree or HNC/HND in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Membership of an industry-recognised professional institute (e.g., CIOB, ICE, IET) or be progressing toward chartered status.
  • Experience in tenders, preconstruction, and project delivery within civil infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of the Energy and Power markets, particularly substations.

Required Experience:

  • Preconstruction/tender design appointments.
  • Experience in the Energy sector, particularly substations.
  • Working knowledge of NEC 3/4 contracts and associated change mechanisms.
  • Design consultant appointment and management of scope/programme.
  • Design management processes and procedures.
  • BIM experience (beneficial but not essential).
